Home-owner’s Insurance and Firearms

The other day I learned that my home-owner’s insurance (Arbella Mutual) has a cap of $2,000 on stolen firearms. My agent told me that it is quite common for many insurance companies to do this and if you have firearms worth more than the cap amount, you might consider purchasing a rider for the policy. The rider costs approximately $5 per thousand and covers the firearms if they are stolen, lost, or damaged. So, $10,000 worth of coverage would cost you $50 per year. You can also add other pieces of equipment to the rider such as spotting scopes, rifle scopes, and shooting clothing. Obviously each insurance company’s policies will be a little different, but in general I thought purchasing a rider to cover my equipment seemed like a pretty good idea. It might be worth checking with your insurance agent to see what your coverage is.

HPM 8/21 Results Posted

We had great conditions last night, clear and calm. It’s beginning to get darker earlier so plan on starting to shoot at 6pm next week (the last match). Erik Hoskins won last night with a 400-36x and I was second with a 400-35x. Nice shooting Erik. Complete results can be viewed here.

New look to pronematch.com

I’m currently making some changes to the software and the style sheets that drive pronematch.com. I think you’ll like the the new look and it should be easier to navigate. I’m also in the process of merging foliagematch.com website INTO this website. Once that merge is complete, you’ll be able to register for the 2008 Fall Foliage match right here on pronematch.com

Match this Thursday, 8/14

We’ll be shootin’ from our bellies again this Thursday at Hopkinton Sportsmen’s. You’re running out of time if you’ve been wanting to come out and shoot but haven’t been able to make it…there’s only 3 matches left! So why not tell the boss you’ve got a dentist appointment and duck out of work early and go shoot? After the match, we’ll be having hot dogs, potato salad, and corn on the cob. See you there!

8/7 Results

We managed to squeeze in the match last night, starting at about 6:30pm. There was some lingering showers but all of the severe weather had passed through (thanks go to Rick Johnson, our pronematch.com meteorologist). The conditions were pretty good but the rain clouds made it quite dark for the last stage. I won the match with a 400-33x and Erik Hoskins finished just an X behind with a 400-32x. The pulled chicken and coleslaw was a hit…I think the coleslaw was best right on top of the chicken.

Match Tonight, 8/6

4:51pm UPDATE: We’re going to give it a try.

3:45pm UPDATE: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Hopkinton. The storms are moving very slowly through the area but are quite severe with some hail reported. If I need to cancel the match tonight I will post it here by 4:45pm. If you need to travel through these storms to get to the range, stay home!

Don’t forget, we added a couple of matches this month and tonight is one of them (8/6). After the match, we’ll be dining on pulled chicken sandwiches and my blue cheese cole slaw. You’ll have your choice of hot sauces, too (Original Tabasco or Chipotle Tabasco)…wow, that’s special! Bring your own beverage, your $5 entry fee covers the match and dinner.

Blue Trail Range Update

The Lymans have been making some range improvements to Blue Trail over the last few months to increase safety and to help ease concerns of residents in the Wallingford area. It seems the range is poised to re-open but the Attorney General is now involved so they can use your support (http://www.savebluetrailrange.org/). The local TV station recently posted an article and TV segment on their website. You can view it here.

Clambake anyone?

We’re considering doing a clambake for the last Hopkinton Prone Match this season on 8/28. Obviously the $5 match fee wouldn’t cover the cost, so it would probably be in the $20-$30 per person range. It’s a lot of work so we haven’t decided if we will do it or not, but if you’re interested and can make on the 28th, you can voice your approval or disapproval in the poll to the right of your browser.
