Coaches Corner…first in a series

Coaches Corner—Edition 1
by Erik Hoskins

This is the first in a series of articles I will be writing about my performance, thoughts, and experiences in smallbore rifle shooting. My hope is that you might find some of my writings useful in your own endeavors in smallbore and if not, perhaps you will at least find the stories entertaining. Enjoy!

On September 28th, 2008 I awoke in an Econo Lodge in downtown Schenectady, NY at 6:30 am. I had a chair stuffed under the doorknob, just for safety sake. I was here for a rifle match, and I was determined to beat the well-known record of Ronald Continue reading

Anyways, the invite is below and it looks like it’s open to anybody who wants to shoot a little bit and eat some pizza.

NH Outdoor 3P State Championship

Keith Jylkka informed me that there is still a few spots open for the 2008 New Hampshire Outdoor 3P State Championship. You can download the match program here. So why not head up to NH September 20th, take in some foliage, and do a little 3P shooting? There’s only a few outdoor matches until the dreaded indoor season starts!

Blue Trail Range Update

I heard from Debbie Lyman the other day and she informed me that a second lawsuit has been filed against Blue Trail Range. The second lawsuit is largely for lead contamination, even though the town of Wallingford has recently published tests showing that this is not the case. To help defray some of the costs involved in range improvements and litigation, Blue Trail is hosting a fundraising pig roast on October 5th. You can download the flyer here. So, if you weren’t planning on shooting the Fall Foliage Match you might consider heading down to Wallingford to show your support. Or, if you are shooting the Foliage Match and can’t make it to the fundraiser, you can make a donation at http://savebluetrailrange.org/

Thanks for a great HPM season!

Well, we wrapped up the 2008 HPM season in style last night—New York strip steak, BBQ salad, fire roasted corn, and steamers. We had a little trouble getting the water hot enough for the steamers, but we improvised (as you can see below) and they turned out great. Erik Hoskins won last night and Rich Girvin and Don Norris tied for second. You can see the complete results here. Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot this year, it was a wonderful time.

Erik Hoskins applies some "fire power" to the steamers. Thanks to Bill Burow for supplying two tanks of mapp gas!
