Twenty-eighth Annual Rhode Island and Massachusetts Goodwill Trophy Match
by Hap Rocketto

The best available rifleman from the Rhode Island Smallbore Rifle League and the Massachusetts South Shore Rifle League squared off against each other in the 28th edition of the Rhode Island and Massachusetts Goodwill Trophy Match at the Angle Tree Rod and Gun Club in Attleboro, Massachusetts on April 23, 2013.

Under the watchful eye of Co-Match Directors Joe Graf, RI, and John Harney, MA, shooters from each league shot a three position course of fire, on the difficult NRA/USA 50 target. Only the high five scores count for the aggregate score and the Bay State team bested the Ocean State crew by a margin of 36 points, 1361 to 1325.

Dan McCabe and George Pantazelos both shot sold 280 scores for Massachusetts and Graf carded a match high 285 for Rhode Island. The support from Jack Donnelly, L. Girard, and Harney for McCabe and Pantazelos was about equal to that of Alex Muzzioli, Al Thurn, Carolyn Cote, and John Polesno but Rhode Island lacked the second 280 score to make the match tighter.

Angle Tree will be able to proudly display the Richard P. Hanson Trophy, named for the man who guided the Rhode Island Association for many years and strong supporter of this match, for the next year until the two leagues face off in this traditional interstate contest.
