5/7/09 HPM Match

We managed to dodge the rain last night and stay dry while we shot the match (though the threatening rain storms did make it quite dark). Chuck Cannon won the match with a great 400-31x.

The rain storms did give us a beautiful sunset to enjoy while we inhaled our pizza. Below are a few pics, you can see a few more on Flickr here.

USA Shooting Prone Match

Yesterday was the USA Shooting Prone Match hosted by Rick Johnson at the Harvard Sportsmen’s Club in Massachusetts. 26 competitors showed up to perfect conditions with bright, flat light and absolutely no wind. The weather was warm and spirits were high as this one of the first outdoor matches of the season, and gave us a taste of the season to come. In the end, Hoskins prevailed with a score of 588-32x, nice shooting Erik! Thanks to Rick Johnson and all of the folks who helped out with the scoring.

Concentration

Concentration
By Hap Rocketto

Concentration is a critical skill in shooting. One must be able to shut out a variety of outside distractions while still maintaining an acute situational awareness of things going on about you. We even use earplugs and special hats to help block out the unnecessary. Never was my ability to concentrate tested more than during the last match of a recent indoor season.

My brother Steve was recovering from back surgery and I had been spending a lot of time tending to his needs during the month or so he was bedridden. I fed him, changed his linens, brought in his mail, and did all sorts of odd jobs. These included the occasional bath and, believe me, greater love hath no brother. Continue reading

RI Awards Banquet

Last night was the RI awards banquet at Varnum Armory. 80 degrees and bright blue sky set the stage for a great evening of steak, laughter, and awards. Thanks to Joe Graf for organizing the event, it went off without a hitch.

Record HPM attendance last night

We had  15 shooters at the match last night which is an all-time record for us. We had a great time, it was a little cool and the wind was a bit tricky but it was great to get outside. If you attended last night’s match, check yourself for ticks. Fred Beihold said he picked up a tick from the range.

Each week I will post the results on our results page (last night’s results are not up yet they’re up now). I won’t necessarily be making a post each week letting you know that the results are up, so you might consider subscribing to that page’s RSS feed.
