January Pickering Results
The third match of the inaugural season of the Timothy Pickering Memorial Indoor Prone Postal Match saw some changes as it marked the 181st anniversary of the honoree’s passing on January 29th.
Leading the league for the third consecutive month was PM.Com’s Old No.7. Hunkered down behind their scopes Erik Hoskins again had the high individual any sight score, a 596, and was back up by a pair of 594’s fired by his cronies Dan Holmes and George Pantazelos for a 1784. Alternate Joe Graf turned in a 588.
Digby Hand managed to straddle Steve Rocketto’s anysight 590 with a 588 from Ernie Mellor and a 592 from Hap Rocketto for an average of 590 and a aggregate score of 1770.
Les Trios Loonies braved the harsh arctic weather and long winter nights in our Northern Neighbor to post a 1753 that was highlighted by a nip and tuck battle between Nicole Rossignol and Paul Deslierres with Paul leading the team with a 588 to Nicole’s 587. They were supported by Jac Rossignol’s 578 which gave them a 1753.
Taunton’s Red Devil Ducks were the top junior team this month. With all of the youngsters shooting iron sights Sarah MacLagan lead the trio with an excellent 584. Zack Connell put up a 579 which, when combined with Sonya May’s 568 saw then total 1731. Team alternate Mike Porzio continued to gain match experience under Coach Kevein Winters and put up a 510.
KATOF, a mixed team of two geriatrics and one kid, held there own with a 1724 built upon Boody Liedtke’s 578, Joe Zichichi’s 580 and sub junior Tom Manchester’s 568.
Keeping the flame of smallbore prone alive in the cold of Central Connecticut, the Trailblazers tied KATOF’s 1724 when Pete Dudzinski banged out a 583, Pat Russo a 576, and Steve Fox a 565.
Taunton threw two teams into the mix this month and the Ringleaders gave as good as they got with a 1272 on the young backs of Gennaro Ciatto, Dan Winters, and Kaylyn Bosh who fired 455, 451, and 366 respectively.
A quartet of independent riflemen rounded out the competition. Lenny “The Brewmeister” Remaly turned in a 594 with a scope while Hap Rocketto, a glutton for punishment, returned to the range to shoot another 60 shots. This time he used iron sights and managed a 588. Joe Graff followed Rocketto’s lead and held tight enough with irons to have a score of 572 follow his name. The first score submitted this month was from Rick Johnson, Jr. who, tired of coaching, unlimbered his gear, tightened up his iron sights and shot a 568.
It was a good turn out and a pleasant way to while away a few hours during a month when we all need a little lift to get us through until spring and the outdoor season.
